What is hair bleaching? 

Hair whitening is all about chemistry! So it's important to be careful which products you buy and that you buy from retailers who specialise in it. In the hair whitening process, the protective layer of the hair is first dissolved by an alkaline component in the product. Then oxidation will occur, dissolving the melamine in the hair. This simply means that the pigment that gives your hair colour will be released. If you're aiming for extra light hair, the bleach needs to stay in the hair for much longer than if it's just a single tone.  

For those with extra dark hair 

It can vary greatly from scalp to scalp which bleaching product is needed. And not least, how light you want your hair to end up. If your hair is very dark, you may need multiple steps and colouring. It's perfectly normal that after a single bleaching session there may be excess colour in the hair, giving it a yellow or orange tint. However, this can be remedied by using a silver shampoo. In silver shampoo, there are strong pigments of blue or purple, which are complementary colours to yellow and orange. They will therefore balance the shades in your hair and provide a lighter look. 

A more gentle alternative 

Bleaching hair can be a bit risky because you don't know what undertones of the hair will be brought out. Nor do you know if the bleaching will be even. Especially if you insist on doing it at home, preparation is crucial for a better result. But not even the best hairdresser can predict how your hair will react to bleaching. It's not as damaging to the hair and is designed to lighten several tones of most hair colours. 

Take extra care of your hair 

Bleaching isn't something to throw around. For a lasting look, we recommend going to the hairdresser and having your hair bleached every six to eight weeks. But if you're bleaching your hair at home, it's important that you give your hair a break and some love. When the protective layer is removed from the hair strands, you leave it compromised and fragile, increasing the chance of damage and breakage. That's why you should be careful when treating your hair and not bleach it several times in a row on the same day.
